Name & Cabin Changes

NAME & CABIN CHANGE FEES
The guest who places a reservation for a stateroom onboard the Salsa Cruise will be considered that cabin's "Lead Guest" and is the "owner" of the reservation. The Lead Guest is therefore solely responsible for initiating or authorizing changes to the reservation, and must agree in writing to any changes made to the reservation, by emailing captainsupport@whettravel.com

Name Changes
All guest NAME changes can be made up until 30 days prior to sailing (if allowed by the cruise line), and will be assessed the following administrative fees per name change:

$50.00 per person, per change for name changes through final payment date of June 20, 2018
$100.00 per person, per change for name changes through 30 days before sailing: September 29, 2018.
$200.00 per person, per change for name changes within 30 days of sailing (on or after September 30, 2018.)

The Lead Guest is not allowed to change their name within the reservation. At least one original name and/or lead guest name must remain on the reservation. If all original guests cancel, this is considered a full cancellation without refund, and name changes will not be allowed. An original name is one that has been added to your reservation at the time of your initial deposit or payment.

In all cases of name changes, the NEW guest must make full payment. Once that payment has been made, then the applicable amounts paid by the ORIGINAL guest will be refunded directly to the original guest, less the cost of the name change fee(s).

Cabin Changes
All guest CABIN changes can be made up until 30 days prior to sailing (if allowed by the cruise line), and will be assessed the following administrative fees per cabin change:

$50.00 per person, per change for name changes through final payment date of June 20, 2018
$100.00 per person, per change for name changes through 30 days before sailing: September 29, 2018.
$200.00 per person, per change for name changes within 30 days of sailing (on or after September 30, 2018.)

Your cabin number is subject to change without notice at the discretion of the cruise line.

No changes of any kind (name or cabin) will be accepted within two weeks of sailing (on or after October 15, 2018).

Cabin Occupancy Changes
Rates are based on the number of people in your cabin. Changes in occupancy will result in a rate increase or decrease depending on the type of change.

Passport/Visa

PASSPORT & LEGAL DOCUMENTATION

All guests cruising to Cuba must be in possession of the following documentation to sail. No exceptions will be made.

  • A valid passport – ALL PASSENGERS MUST HAVE A PASSPORT TO CRUISE TO CUBA (Passports cards are not allowed)

  • Cuban visa (a.k.a. Tarjeta del Turista) - provided by Salsa Cruise/NCL and given upon Check-in

  • Completed Travel Affidavit Certification Form

  • Valid visa documentation to enter the United States (when applicable)

A valid passport is required for all guests to travel to Cuba. We recommend guests review the passport requirements of travel to Cuba from their home country and that the expiration of your passport be greater than six months from the date of your voyage.

Dual Citizens

All U.S.-Cuban dual citizens should note that the Government of Cuba treats U.S. citizens born in Cuba as Cuban citizens and may subject them to a range of restrictions and obligations. The Cuban government requires U.S.-Cuban dual citizens who departed Cuba on or after January 1, 1971 to enter and depart Cuba using a Cuban passport. Using a Cuban passport for this purpose does not jeopardize one’s U.S. citizenship; however, such persons must use their U.S. passports to enter and depart the United States. Cuban-Americans who departed Cuba before January 1, 1971 may travel to Cuba on their U.S. passport but must apply for an HE-11 visa from the Cuban Embassy. Cuban authorities do not always notify the U.S. Embassy of the arrest of dual nationals and may deny U.S. consular officers access to them.

Cuban born guests who emigrated before January 1, 1971 are required to carry 1) a valid cuban passport or 2) a valid passport from their country of citizenship AND a HE-11 Visa which must be obtained from the Cuban embassy or consulate. This is not included with this charter cost.

Cuban born guests who emigrated on or after January 1, 1971 are required to carry a valid Cuban passport for entry and departure from Cuba. These guests do not need a cuban visa. The cost to update their cuban passport is not included with this charter cost.

Guests born in Cuba who require a visa or passport should contact the Cuban embassy or consulate in their country of residency. Those residing in the United States may contact the Cuban Embassy in Washington, DC:

Embassy of the Republic of Cuba
2630 16th Street NW
Washington, DC 20009
http://www.cubadiplomatica.cu/eeuu/EN/ConsularServices.aspx
Email: recepcion@usadc.embacuba.cu
Phone: (202) 797-8518 extension 600

In addition, there are several companies that offer visa/passport processing services to guests to assist in obtaining a visa and/or a Cuban passport, including:

Visa Requirements for Cuban Born Guests

Any guest born in Cuba is ineligible to enter Cuba with the Tarjeta del Turista visa.  Documentation requirements for Cubans differ depending on the year the guest left Cuba.  We will rely on them to inform us honestly which year they left Cuba.  Any Cuban guest without the correct visa documentation cannot sail, and will be denied boarding the Norwegian Sky.

Documentation requirements for Cuban born guests who left Cuba prior to 1971 are as follows:

  • Those who are NOT in possession of a Cuban passport are required to have an HE11 visa along with their foreign passport.

OR

  • Those who ARE in possession of a valid Cuban passport are required to have a Habilitación Permission of Re-Entry visa inside of their, pictured below.  These do not expire.

All Cuban born guests who left Cuba after 1971 are required to be in possession of a valid Cuban passport together with a Habilitación Permission of Re-Entry visa.

**VERY IMPORTANT note regarding Cuban passports:

Cuban passports are valid for six years, but must be renewed every two years. Therefore, it is imperative to check the issue date of the passport, and if it was issued more than two years ago, they must have a “prorroga” stamp in the passport, which cannot be older than 2 years.

Visa Requirements for Non-Cuban Born Guests

All guests cruising to Cuba on the passenger list require a visa (Tarjeta del Turista) to cruise to Cuba.  All nationalities are eligible to enter Cuba with this visa (except for anyone born in Cuba). Guests from visa exempt nationalities must still have a visa since they are entering Cuba from the United States.

Passenger Services is encouraging all guests who choose to purchase a Cuban visa through Norwegian Cruise Line to do so in advance.   Passenger Services will send the ship the guest information for all guests who have pre-purchased the visa so a mail merge can be done to print their information on the visa, as done in the picture below.  This information will come through on the first download.  Pre-printed visas will be given to guests when they check in.  We will have a dedicated “visa desk” in the terminal with pier staff dedicated to distributing visas to guests as they check in.

cid:35713B89-FDC8-4E27-AACE-4C916EDD55A7

Guests may also arrive at the pier with a visa they purchased themselves from Cuban embassies or visa service companies.  They may be a different color than the pink visas we are selling, but so long as they have the same information, they should be accepted by Cuban immigration.   If for any reason a guest’s visa is not accepted by immigration in Havana, we will sell them one of our visas on the spot and charge their onboard account $75 per visa.

Any guest who arrives at the pier without a Cuban visa will be issued a visa at check in, and will sign a receipt stating their onboard account will be charged $75 per visa.  Guests will fill the information out on the visa themselves once onboard and will be given an instruction sheet to assist them.

Travel Visa Included in Charter

The Visa also known as "tourist card" or "rosada". This is required to enter and depart from Cuba for non-business purposes. This visa will be obtained through NCL.

The Cuban government requires anyone who is traveling to Cuba on a passport other than a valid Cuban passport to obtain a visa prior to their arrival into Cuba. For all visitors who were not born in Cuba, this visa, also known as a “tourist card” (or “rosada” which must have a pink and blue background irrespective of your country of residency), is required to enter (and depart from) Cuba for non-business purposes. The Cuban visa is valid for a single entry and allows the holder to stay in Cuba for 30 days.  You may obtain this visa through Norwegian for a separate processing and procurement fee of $75 or on your own.  Please note that you will not be allowed to board the vessel without proof of acquiring this visa.

The Cuban visa is a two-part card. Cuban immigration officials will take one half upon arrival in Cuba, and guests will surrender the other half to Cuban immigration officials upon departure. Guests should be sure to keep the Cuban visa in a safe place during the trip so they have it at the time of departure from Cuba

PASSPORT & LEGAL DOCUMENTATION

A valid passport is required for all guests to travel to Cuba. We recommend guests review the passport requirements of travel to Cuba from their home country and that the expiration of your passport be greater than six months from the date of your voyage.

As balconies are a hallmark of Norwegian Cruise Lines, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke. Visiting Cuba

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Travel to Cuba for tourist activities remains prohibited by statute. However, the Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued general licenses for 12 categories of travel. Individuals who meet the regulatory conditions of the general license they seek to travel under do not need to apply for an additional license from OFAC to travel to Cuba. The 12 categories of authorized travel to Cuba are: family visits; official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations; journalistic activity; professional research and professional meetings; educational activities; religious activities; public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions; support for the Cuban people; humanitarian projects; activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes; exportation, importation, or transmission of information or informational materials; and certain authorized export transactions.

Will I be able to move about Cuba freely?
Norwegian Cruise Line will offer a variety of shore excursions at each of our ports of call. Guests are not required to participate in these excursions to meet their group people-to-people travel requirements so long as they use another U.S. sponsoring organization to meet those requirements and are, otherwise, free to move about Cuba as long as their activities comply with the general license they are travelling under. Entry to some government buildings may be restricted; it's best to ask your guide about the building’s specific entry protocol before trying to enter on your own.

How do I certify that I am travelling under one of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)-approved categories of travel?
All guests must complete a certification form which sets forth and confirms that they will be participating in OFAC-compliant activities.

link to the certification form. One per guest.

Certification must be received by Norwegian no later than 3 days prior to the departure date. Please be advised that guests will not be able to board the vessel without having first completed the form.

ALL guests will be certifying which means that they are solely responsible for arranging a full-time schedule of OFAC-compliant activities, as explained above. These activities may include excursions provided by Norwegian or another U.S sponsoring organization.

How do I prove compliance with OFAC requirements during my cruise?

All travelers to Cuba must be able to prove that their trip was comprised of OFAC-compliant activities. Guests should keep a log of their activities and keep the log for 5 years. Guests may also request that Norwegian keep a record of their itinerary and shore excursion activity if Norwegian is the U.S. sponsoring organization providing any group people-to-people exchanges to the guest.

Will non-U.S. guests be allowed to travel on these sailings?
Yes. As with travelers from the United States, non-U.S. guests will need to certify that they are traveling under one of the approved OFAC categories, keep records of their activities and sign affidavits confirming they are doing so.

PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS WHILE IN CUBA

Are there restrictions on what I can bring into Cuba?
There are both U.S. and Cuba import regulations that travelers must comply with when traveling and bringing items into Cuba.

For information on U.S. import regulations, please click on the following link for the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Industry and Security’s Export Administration Regulations https://www.bis.doc.gov/index.php/regulations/export-administration-regulations-ear.

For information on Cuba import regulations, please click on the following link for the General Customs of the Republic of Cuba http://www.aduana.co.cu/.

CURRENCY
Cuba operates as a dual currency system. Cuban convertible peso (CUC$) is the currency which you will exchange and use in Cuba. CUC$ come in the following denominations: 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100. Please note that CUC$ 1 comes in both a coin and paper money configuration. There is a second currency, the Cuban peso, also called moneda nacional or CUP which is used only by Cuban citizens.

Can I exchange money in Cuba?
Yes. Once in Cuba, the port, tourist hotels, banks, and CADECA bureaus (Cuban government exchange bureaus) can exchange currency (U.S. and Canadian dollars, Euros, British pounds, etc.) for a fee. Non-U.S. currencies such as Euros and Canadian dollars usually have a more favorable exchange rate than the U.S. dollar. Be sure to have proper ID (passport) on hand. Do not accept offers to exchange currency with anyone who approaches you on the street. This is particularly applicable due to the dual currency system used in Cuba.

The U.S. State Department advises that the export of CUCs is strictly prohibited, regardless of the amount.

Can I use my credit cards in Cuba?
While U.S. citizens are allowed to use debit and credit cards in Cuba, the vast majority of U.S. banks are still considering whether to allow for these transactions to take place. Thus, it is advisable to assume that all transactions in Cuba will be done using cash. At this time do not rely on credit cards being readily accepted.

Will there be Wi-Fi while in Cuba?
All vessels docked in Cuba will provide Wi-Fi service; however, service may not be guaranteed at all times. Cuba has limited Wi-Fi services, although certain hotels and internet cafes may provide service for a fee.

Will I have cellular service while in Cuba?
Several carriers in the U.S. and abroad have signed roaming agreements with Cuban telecommunications firm ETECSA, which allows for voice, data and text services while in Cuba. Please check with you cellular provider for details.

What am I allowed to bring back from Cuba? Can I bring back cigars, rum and other items from Cuba?
U.S. persons are allowed to return with certain Cuban-origin items, including cigars and rum, for personal use only and pursuant to OFAC regulations. These items remain subject to the normal limits on duty and tax exemptions for merchandise imported as accompanied baggage and for personal use. We refer you to the link in the FAQ “Is it legal for U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba?” above which provides guidance on items that can be imported from Cuba.

How much can I spend while in Cuba?
There are no per diem limits on authorized expenses.

Are excursions included in the cruise fare?
While excursions are not included in the cruise fare, Norwegian Cruise Line will offer a variety of excursions to assist guests in meeting the requirements of people to people exchanges.

Do I have to take a shore excursion?
You do not have take a shore excursion, but you must document every where you go and keep the records for up to 3 years from the date your travel to Cuba to follow the "people to people" guidelines.  If you take a shore excursion then the voucher from the tour is all you need as documentation.
